delta 8 Thc Edibles – Are They Worth the Extra Costs?

delta 8 Thc Edibles

Delta 8 THC Edibles are one of the most popular trends in the new cannabis market. As a derivative of delta-9 THC (the main active constituent of pot), d8 offers people a lower risk of getting addicted to marijuana, while still experiencing a psychoactive “high.” Although some claim that d8 lacks the powerful and mind-altering aspects of THC, it does still cause a mental high similar to that experienced with most other psychoactive substances. The question then becomes, can a non-addictive drug like d8 be as effective as other, often more potent, prescription painkillers? A new article in Addiction Magazine attempts to answer this question by examining the science behind the two drugs.

The delta 10-THC in delta-8 THC edibles, or THCA, acts much like an anti-depressant in the way that it causes the body to produce neurochemicals, called neurotransmitters, which synch up with receptors located in the brain. These neurons receive “messages” from the neurotransmitters and react accordingly, although this reaction can also be triggered by physical stimuli. The receptors for delta-8 THC are thought to be unique to this phytochemical, as compared to those found in delta-9 THC and other alkaloids. Because of this, many believe that the efficacy of delta-8 products is limited only by the amount of plant material ingested, or the frequency at which it is taken.

In recent years, two major manufacturers of d8 THC and related cannabis products have come under fire. One of these corporations, Toronto-based Metropass Technologies, was recently fined by the Canadian government for producing a product using counterfeit delta-10 THC in violation of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Another major producer, Jazz Seeds Inc, has been subject to numerous raids on their facility due to the discovery of aflatoxone, which is the active ingredient in the Delta-8 product. Both companies are being investigated for introducing counterfeit delta-10 THC and aflatoxone into the marketplace. Neither has admitted to any wrongdoing, and neither has released any additional dosing information.

Are They Worth the Extra Costs?

For anyone interested in trying a new product, the delta-8 THC and aflatoxone are a great choice. This is especially true when it comes to those who are new to medical marijuana, and who may not understand the full therapeutic potential of this particular plant. However, once the person has become more familiar with this substance and its various medical uses, he or she may realize that these products are a great choice for providing relief of symptoms, while avoiding the potentially dangerous side effects of ingesting aflatoxin.

In considering the benefits of delta-8 THC and aflatoxone edibles, one must also consider possible drawbacks. Most edible forms of delta-8 THC are comprised of little more than the dried form of the plant. Therefore, there is no added benefit of ingesting a concentrated version of this substance. Likewise, when the user chooses to consume the edibles in a form other than as a dried flower, there is a real possibility that some of the plant material could be consumed. Also, it should be noted that these edibles do not typically list the phishing ingredient as a prime ingredient, nor do they provide the user with the same level of physical protection afforded by the recommended dosage of a natural supplement.

While not the only concern, consumers should be aware that not all flavors of delta 8 thc edibles contain the same amount of the active ingredient. A representative who is able to assist with questions regarding the best flavor selection would be the most beneficial in these instances. Another issue that may prove to be problematic is the lack of information regarding the concentration of delta 8 THC present in the various flavors of edible products. While the recommended dosage is five milligrams for individuals over the age of 18, it is unknown if any amount is absorbed through edible skin contact. The best course of action would be to consult a physician before choosing the edible of choice.
