Disaster awaits Nigeria if Buhari imposes successor – CACOL Leader

Debo Adediran, chief executive of the Center for Combating Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, said on Wednesday in Lagos that disaster awaits Nigeria, if President Muhammed Buhari decides to impose his successor on the country, at the end of his mandate.

Adediran stated this during a one-day capacity building workshop for police officers held at the Area F Police Command in Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking on the topic: ‘Introduction to the dynamics of corruption and call to action’, the CACOL leader said that over the years, corruption has become endemic because corrupt Nigerians are greedy, selfish, greedy and therefore they are desperate to use their wealth. and power to repress the poor and weak in our society.

He identified attitudinal corruption, gluttony, economic corruption, moral corruption, pseudo corruption and true corruption, as some of the subsectors of this canker worm, which permeates all sectors of our society.

On economic corruption, he explained that these are couples who give birth to many children in the name of traditions, customs and pressure for their grandparents to see their grandchildren before they die.

This has led to people living beyond their financial means and therefore looking for corrupt ways to earn more money outside of their legal and legitimate income.

Their worlds: Corruption, which begins in the minds of people, through families, communities, states and the nation, could only be addressed, it is the people know that their thoughts, words and deeds of today will manifest in their lives tomorrow.

He further explained that since the democratic government returned to Nigeria, only President Muhammed Buhari has the political will to confront corruption head-on.

His words: “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, used Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to intimidate his political enemies, real or perceived, and otherwise, without fighting corruption.”

Obasanjo recruited Atiku Abubakar to become his vice president, he quarreled with him (Atiku), when the Adamawa state-born politician was not dancing to his (Obasanjo), musical tones, he swore that God should punish him, if he supports to Atiku in his future. political ambition and only turned around to support the former vice president during the last presidential election, Adediran said.

That was a disaster for the People’s Democratic Party when Obasanjo tried to impose Atiku on Nigerians.

According to him, if Buhari, who may have a preferred successor in mind, decides in 2023 to impose his candidate on Nigerians, it could lead to disaster, as the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, can be brought down at the presidential level by anyone. strong. political party then.

Furthermore, the many achievements that the Buhari-led regime has recorded in the first term in the areas of anti-corruption warfare, agriculture, security, economics and other sectors, could be traced back to the bad times of the Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan regimes.

In his comment, Olusoji Adebajo, Area F Police Commander, said that a poorly equipped police force cannot be expected to do wonders, even when calling on police officers to be bold, stubborn, courageous, professional in the performance of its functions.

He explained that although corruption exists everywhere, police officers, who are professionals in the performance of their duties, can be punished or beaten to death, so to speak, but help will come from God in the end.

Many police officers have been fired from the force across the country and even more will be fired for engaging in corrupt practices in the coming years, he said.
