Last winter, there was a winter in Moab. Moab hadn’t experienced one of this caliber since 1976. The Yeti Thaw, usually held over Presidents’ Weekend in February, experienced inclement weather in 2010, until it affected the 2011 event. Demonstrate the Yeti bike, enjoy group rides, parties, and the vibrant community of three Moab mountain bike companies: Magpie Adventure, Poison Spider Bicycles, and Rim Tours. It’s a free event and the perfect spring party.

Road biking spans three days, winding through Arches National Park, along the Colorado River, and to Dead Horse Point State Park, which looks out over the vast emptiness of preserved Canyonlands National Park. The Skinny Tire Festival benefits cancer survivor programs.
Extreme adventure
Gravity Play Adventure Races open registration on January 3, 2011. It is a mix of athletic disciplines: flatwater inflatable kayak, mountain biking, hiking, rappelling and sailing. The mountain bike section is particularly challenging in Long Canyon.

Riding the mountain pass in the La Sal Mountains, climbing 5500 feet in 60 miles, this event will emulate an ancient Italian tradition. Road bikers experience breathtaking views of the canyons below and a 12,000 foot peak above. Gran Fondo is NOT a race. The top five male and female cyclists will be recognized for reaching the top of the pass. THERE ARE NO PRIZES for returning to the city in record time. Security must be respected.
Moab Triathlon is NEW for 2011
TriUtah bases this two-day event in the Ken’s Lake area south of Moab. XTERRA off-road triathlon, XTERRA trail run, road triathlon and children’s triathlon.
Rockwell relay
The Rockwell Relay is a road cycling race where teams of 4 riders take to the road in a relay format and race to the finish line without stopping. It begins in June in Moab and concludes in St. George.

Moab Ho Down
It’s a mountain bike festival over Halloween weekend. Get your costume on, bring all your bikes.
