A road trip to Wisconsin

As University of Wisconsin alumni, my wife and I are huge fans of the university, especially once football season rolls around. I grew up on the west coast. However, my wife grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, and her family are the most avid Badgers fans I’ve ever met (myself included). So, for some well-deserved “us” time (and to test drive our new 2008 Chevy Tahoe along the way), we hit the road to spend time with family, attend a football game, and the University of Wisconsin.

We embarked on the road trip from our hometown of Wausau and headed down to La Crosse to visit my wife’s parents and attend my mother-in-law’s birthday party. I was so glad we purchased our dream vehicle from our local Wausau Chevy dealership. Not only is this car powerful and roomy enough to carry all of our luggage, but it was such a smooth ride (or as my wife likes to say, “like riding on a cloud”) So thanks to our “cloud” we didn’t it was long before my wife was fast asleep and I was left talking to myself. Fortunately, the Chevy Tahoe has disc and audio controls, so I didn’t have to take my eyes off the road to change the radio station and keep myself a bit entertained.

Once we got to La Crosse, everyone was glad to see us. And even my mother-in-law seemed to approve of our Tahoe. Although she generally disapproves of many of our purchase decisions, she was pleased with our “sleek” and “grown-up” metallic dark blue SUV. We stayed at my in-laws’ house for one night, had a surprisingly good time at the party, and continued on our way (but not before turning down a very generous offer from my wife’s father to play bingo at the local senior center).

Approaching Madison made me feel like I was a college student again, although a lot had changed since we attended. Fortunately, our Tahoe has OnStar, so from parking to our favorite local restaurants, we were able to find all the places we once loved as college students. After enjoying the local food and dodging some drunk college students, we spent the day as die-hard badger fans, dressed in red and standing in line all day. The game was even better than I remembered with that defining sound of a full stadium filled with redcoat badger fans.

After a packed weekend, we began our journey back to Wausau. We had such a great time in our new Tahoe that we’re already talking about our next road trip. With ski season approaching, we can’t wait to pack the snow gear in the SUV and hit our favorite ski spots this winter.
