Throughout the history of automobiles, almost everyone has driven a car at some point in their life, and many people own cars. The only thing that changes over the years is the different automotive fads that we seem to go through. A fad can pass quickly through a society or it can stick around for a while, and while many people don’t think about it, the auto industry has had many random fads. This list goes over the different car fads we’ve witnessed.

One of the more recent fads is spinning wheels, also known as Spinners. Spinners were created in the 1980s and are sadly still seen today. A spinner is a tire whose inner part continues to spin even when the vehicle has stopped. Sounds a bit ridiculous, but very expensive as getting a complete set of spinners can cost you thousands of dollars and all they do is spin. No other bells and whistles, just spinning shiny metal. Awesome. They may have been cool when they were invited, but hopefully, this trend that has stuck will play out soon.

“Baby on Board” signs are another fad that started in the 1980s, but unlike spinners, you don’t see that much anymore. Some people think that it was originally created because a baby died in a car accident because it was not found in time, but that is not the case. Michael Lerner created and made these signs because a friend saw something like this in Europe. So after developing Safety 1st, Lerner made these signs to warn other drivers that there was a baby in the car. The signs shot up like wildfire and could be seen in almost every American family that had a baby car.

One fashion for yelling is the train horn substitute for a traditional car horn. This is a fairly recent fad that has many people yelling and yelling at the possibly teenage driver who fixed their car. This addition can be quite expensive just to change the car horn. Many teenagers upgrade their car with this feature, mainly to get feedback from people. They were originally created by Gabby Szuster, who decided to put a set of train horns under her truck with her trailer. Fortunately, these have gone out of rotation. But for those who still have this addition, get rid of it or you might see more “no honking” laws in your city.

Another fad that wasn’t really annoying was putting dolls on the dashboard of your car. Bobblehead dolls like the ones we know and love today started appearing in the 1950s, however it’s not really known when they started appearing on automobiles. Dogs, cats and even sports figures were placed on the dashboard of the cars, without really knowing why, except that maybe someone agreed with you that you had to run that red light because you may not have stopped. on time.
