Hiking to Lake Levette, British Columbia

Lake Levette is located just north of Squamish and is about 7 miles round trip. This is not a difficult hike and should take around 5 hours to complete with only a 300m vertical drop. If you are looking for a great hike but not as energy intensive as say Garibaldi then give Levette Lake a try and I am sure you will be very happy you did. This is also a dog-friendly hike as long as your dog is under your control.

To get to this destination, drive on Highway 99 past Squamish and Brackendale. Turn left at the Cheekye turnoff and follow Squamish Valley Road over a bridge. Turn right at the fork in the road and then turn left for about a kilometer. You can park on the side of the road here to start your hike. There is a sign at the trailhead with maps of all the local trails in this area.

The beginning of this hike to Lake Levette begins along an old logging road that leads to a hike in a new area of forest growth. The trees have not been planted as densely as an old growth forest and are of course much shorter.

The trail is well marked for hikers and well maintained as well. I would recommend doing this hike earlier in the season and saving some of the higher elevation hikes for later in the summer.

As you continue on your hike and climb slightly in elevation, you’ll begin to get fantastic views of the Tantalus Range to the west, Garibaldi Range to the east, and the Squamish River to the south. Once you exit this vantage point you should notice that you have now entered an untouched old growth forest filled with beautiful Douglas Fir trees.

Cross a wooden bridge and you’ll see a series of cliffs on your left, making this a great place to stop for a snack or lunch. Or continue to the shores of Lake Levette for lunch and a quick swim.

There is a campsite near the shores of the lake for those who wish to spend the night. Or, after a leisurely break by the lake, simply retrace your steps to your vehicle below.

Levette Lake is a great way to start your year of seasonal hiking and one that won’t be too strenuous for even the average hiker. Enjoy this hike for the splendid views and scenery it will give you.

Happy hiking!
