How to Replace the Battery on the iPaq 3800 and 3900 Series

Before starting the installation, please …

– Take care when handling the iPaq and the battery.

– Use common sense to handle the battery, such as not flexing (i.e. bending), away from metal, away from extreme heat, etc.

– Make sure all data on the iPaq has been backed up. All data will be lost after installing the new battery.

– Read all instructions before your first attempt to replace the battery. This will help you visualize the process before it begins.

1. Turn off the power and also make sure the reset key on the bottom of the unit is off to make sure the power is completely off.

2. Remove the stylus from the iPaq before continuing.

3. Using a T6 Torx screwdriver, remove the four screws from each corner. Make sure not to lose the screws. Separate the back cover from the main body with your fingernail or any flat-type device, such as a Phillips screwdriver. Just make sure that
do not scratch the surface if you use a screwdriver.

4. Once the back cover is detached from the main body, open the back cover from the top. Do not remove it all the way as the battery is attached to the main board via a flexible PCB connector. Note: A full reset button slide door and stylus lock are not attached to the body and therefore may come loose when the back cover is removed. They are easy to reattach, but it is wise to take note of their location and position.

5. As you carefully lift the back cover, you will see a connector between the battery and the main board. Carefully remove the battery connector. Please note that the battery is glued to the back cover and can be removed after you
Disconnect the battery connector from the main board.

6. Once you have removed the old battery, align the new battery so that the edge of the battery that is closest to the connector goes to the bottom (that is, the taped side is the top).

7. Firmly press the connector to the battery. Make sure all corners are firmly inserted.

8. Starting at the bottom, reinsert the back cover. Do not force the lid to close. This means that the battery is not properly seated in the back cover. Simply realign the battery so that it is properly seated.

9. Replace four screws and turn on the reset key and power button, in that order, to make sure the unit operates normally.

10. You should fully recharge the battery and leave it charged for an additional 30 to 60 minutes after the full charge indicator turns on. This ensures that the battery is fully charged.
