Humility, honesty, and integrity are rare commodities and cannot be bought on the commodity market.

There are times when we need to do more than just say we’re going back to basics. We have to go back to basics. I am writing this article a year after the collapse of the Lehman bank, which had so many international tentacles that it resulted in several international disasters.

Many were injured. Some went bankrupt. Jobs were lost. Sin is ugly when we see its consequences.

Some made a lot of money, but who would want to make that much money at such an immense price when considering the lives of others?

In the UK, we read about a car company that has been financially ruined, but four men have made around £9m each, and about 6,000 people are out of work.

Writing as a Christian, it is essential for humanity to realize that God’s ways and God’s laws cannot be broken, and God’s methods cannot be improved upon.

One thing God tells man is that godliness with contentment is great gain. We brought nothing into the world and we can get nothing out of it. However, it is true that we can send it in advance and Jesus Christ makes this very clear.

Invest in the poor. Invest among the poor. Invest in those ministries that minister to the poor. Invest wisely where there are no moths, no thieves, no corruption, and where pride and arrogance play no part. That requires honesty, humility and integrity, and these are rare commodities in the financial world. These cannot be bought in the commodity markets!

Some people live with the idea that they will live forever, and to reach their goals they will use almost every available tactic. Such sowing reaps a horrendous harvest.

Lehman’s Bank wanted to be number one and it really didn’t matter much how that position and status were achieved. A fundamental knowledge of the Word of God would have taught those above how wrong that kind of thinking was. Of course, they can be rescued.

Man can be forgiven and restored and reconciled to God by following repentance and faith. That is the good news and that news needs to be proclaimed far and wide and particularly in the business world and also in government circles.

Do the White House and Downing Street London know this?

Honesty, humility, and integrity reap a very different kind of harvest.
