March Madness Who was rejected this year?

Every March they have the NCAA Basketball Championship Series. In this Tournament, 65 of the best Division I basketball teams compete to see who is the best on earth in a single elimination format of the last team standing. Each year, schools are excluded from the NCCA Tournament by the selection committee, leaving fans, sports journalists and students to debate why their team should have been in the tournament.

It can be argued that most schools already participate in the tournament because 31 places are determined by conference ranking or winning a conference tournament. The other 34 teams are selected by the NCCA selection committee. Since the vast majority of Division I teams are part of a conference, then they can guarantee a spot by winning the Conference Tournament or by being the Conference champion.

The 34 great places are awarded to teams that are not part of a Conference (in large teams) or teams that did not get an automatic place. Are the teams that are members of the conference really being snubbed if they are not selected? If you can’t beat the teams in your conference, how can you beat the best teams in the country? Most, if not all teams in general could be part of a conference if they wanted to, so do they have the right to complain if they are snubbed?

Much of the sport is controversial. If fans and sportswriters weren’t debating the merits of why their teams were rejected, then the NCCAA tournament wouldn’t be so much fun to watch.
