Put tips to lower your score instantly

Hey golfers…want to learn how to hit those putts consistently? All you have to do is spend a few quick minutes reading this and in no time you’ll be removing points from your score. πŸ™‚

A. Introduction

A good putt can make or break a decent game. After all, we all want our score to be as low as possible. Let’s go over some quick tips to get that score down ASAP!

B. The way the grass grows

Each shot combines:

1. The golfer’s judgment of distance, terrain, and wind conditions and

2. A complete execution of the swing. And when it comes to kicking, mental gymnastics counts more for this shot than any other you’ll attempt. Sometimes silence can be a defeat!

It is possible to putt better. In fact, your fellow golfers may not even practice putting, let alone educate themselves on how to improve their short game skills.

For example, many golfers simply pace the distance to the cup. There is a better way.

Try this:

1. Stand on the ball.

2. Try to “see” a line that runs directly into the hole. (It’s imaginary. Do your best.)

3. Try to measure the distance in 5 or 10 foot intervals.

4. Next, check the texture of the grass.

5. Now notice which way the grass is growing!

Obviously, you don’t have to hit the ball as hard when the grass grows toward the hole instead of away. But, the trick is that the direction can be a bit hard to judge unless you look closely.

So take a moment and use the direction of grass growth as an indicator of how much power you need in your putt.

And don’t tell people you play with this tip either. You don’t need the competition!

C. Clear your head

“Yips” is what golfers generally use to describe the twitching, jerking, nervousness, and jerking associated with putting. Because the main contributors to “yips” are tension, anxiety, and sometimes a lack of confidence, one way to get rid of them is to try to “empty” your mind.

Here’s what to do… Let your subconscious take over: forget about the stroke, forget about the results, and forget about anything else that might be clouding your judgment. Just play like a kid would. Forget the result. After all, this is recreation, right?

Imagine that it is a Friday afternoon. See yourself walking into your local bar to play a nice relaxing game of pool. It feels? It’s fun, right?

Why should golf be any different?

You may want to win, but the balance of the world doesn’t depend on your chance, right? Playing pool and playing golf shouldn’t be that different.

And what if you fail?!

Try to put yourself in the same relaxed mindset when kicking. Just let it happen. Let your instincts take control.

Trust the hours of practice you’ve put in so far.

Just step up and take the shot. Putt in the “subconscious”.

Sounds cheesy, right? It is. But I’d rather have a lower score and be dumb than be “too cool” to try!

D. Focus your eyes

If you want a surefire way to miss a putt, look up to see if the ball goes into the hole before it does.

Do not do it!

Resist the urge to look at your ball.

The best thing you can do is keep your head still on the ball. Just look at the empty spot the ball used to occupy before you hit it.

Use your ears instead. Hear. Listen to see if the putt goes in…

Don’t let your eyes follow the clubhead during the shot.

To help focus, choose a small, noticeable mark on the ball to focus on. Keep your eye on the brand name, logo, dimple, or identification mark throughout the stroke.

If you’re still having trouble, try getting the head of the putter over the ball. Now, stare at the spot on the ball, and then hold completely still for five seconds…

During those five seconds, let the look in your eyes slowly blur. Your eyes will remain fixed on the spot, but everything else will become seemingly blurry and soft.

Now bring your eyes and mind into this hazy, meditative state. Slip into an altered state and let it happen…..

E. Arranging Your Lineup

Finally, do you see too many angles when you step on a putt?

Have you checked to make sure it’s lined up correctly? Your conscious alignment may be at war with your subconscious. And your putt could get caught up in the conflict between them…

Sounds like fun, right? Think about it… it could be affecting your game right now.

To optimize your alignment, try this:

Use your practice green and drop your ball within a few feet of the hole. Stand behind the ball and line up.

You’re going to use the brand name printed on the ball as a guide, so make sure you can see it.

Position the ball so that the name points directly into the hole. When you drive over the ball with your putter, match the line on the top of your putter to the line on the logo on the ball.

Position the head of the putter flush behind the ball on this line. Now look at your feet.

Are they perpendicular to the line created by the logo? What about your shoulders?

Finally, are you taking the head of the putter straight back and “through” during the stroke?

This will give you a very good gauge on how to adjust your alignment. Make any changes you need to make sure it’s an easy shot and you’re lined up correctly. Small tweaks like this can add up to a lower score very quickly!
