Shopping for the perfect gift for the writer in your family

It’s that time of year again, Christmas. You’re probably trying to figure out what to get your friends and loved ones this year, especially the writer in the family. I think choosing the right gift for a writer or budding writer can be a bit mind-boggling. After all, how much more than paper, pen, and computer does a writer need? Well, you’d be surprised.

First of all, almost all writers are avid readers, so a good book is always appreciated. Second, depending on the type of writing the writer you know does, it can trigger a lot of creative gifts that you can give them. For example, if you know a writer, perhaps a small gift basket containing the latest book by an accomplished writer, plus a variety of other things, such as colored markers, a large pen, and a small pocket notebook. I know as a copywriter it would be a great gift.

However, if you have a writer whose focus is writing novels such as mysteries, you might consider putting together a gift basket that contains several new mysteries from various writers, plus other writing-related supplies. The point is that when shopping for the writer in your family, skip the fru, fru, and lacy stuff and give him something related to his type of writing that can be used and will be appreciated for a long time. Keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be a big, elaborate gift basket. Just be sure to include items that not only stimulate their imagination, but give them new insights into a particular style of writing and also help make writing easier.

All it takes is a little planning and a list of items for the gift basket. You can even visit your local bookstore for ideas and suggestions for filling the basket. It will definitely be worth the trip and is sure to put a smile on the face of the writer receiving the gift. You can bet it will be one of his most treasured gifts. Who knows, they might even write you a heartwarming thank you note that you’ll appreciate.
