Teaching Babies to Read: List of Suggested Words to Teach Your Baby Using Flash Cards

To create your flash cards, you must decide what words you would like to teach. Some ideas to get started are as follows.

Body parts
You can start with simple parts of the body, such as the eyes, hair, nose, and mouth. You can choose to be as detailed as your baby likes. It can teach the names of muscles, bones, and organs in the body.

Family
Babies love to read their own names. You can create a word set that includes all the names of family members. You can use first names, middle names, and even last names. It can include friends and pets.

House objects
You can make a set of word cards that show all the items found in the house, from the names of the furniture to your baby’s favorite possessions.

Colors and shapes
Start teaching individual shapes and colors. Once you teach them, you will be able to use these words in combination with many of the words your baby has already learned. For example, you can show your baby a silver refrigerator, a black sofa, and a pink rug.

Action words
Teach your baby verbs by creating words that show action. You can teach your baby words like crawl, walk, run, and eat.

Opposites
It is a lot of fun teaching the baby. It can start out simple and progress to advanced opposites such as sloppy and neat.

Food
