Time management: learn the secrets behind the concept of time and use them to your best advantage

1. Introduction:

Time is the greatest mystery of Nature. Science uses each and every microsecond for its research, while philosophers claim it as a mere illusion. Which is true between the two? This article analyzes all aspects and gives scientific and philosophical definitions of time. Suggestions are also given for the best advantage of Time to come up in life. For this, sayings of the elders are also used as ‘Eternal’ quotes.

2. Three definitions of time:

2.1. Time is money:

It is our common experience how wealthy people ‘buy’ time. Please look at the following example. If I walk the distance from my home to Delhi, it will take me months to reach the destination. If I have some money I can go by train and arrive in 30 hours. But if I have enough money I can fly and arrive in 3 hours. In earlier days, the Saints used to go to the Himalayas to do penance, walking. It took years for them to come back. But today, an MD from the company travels to Delhi and returns that same afternoon. In fact, it is a scientific achievement. But unless one has no money, he cannot reap the rewards of this scientific achievement, saving himself hundreds of hours of travel.

There are several examples to drive home this point. A patient can be admitted to a doctor in a short time if he has money, while a poor man has to wait on the verandah for hours at a time. Even life can be prolonged if one has enough wealth to spend on expensive medical treatment. The medical facilities available to a wealthy person make him live long, while the poor have a pathetic premature death.

This simple example will demonstrate that time is money. For a wealthy person, time is at her disposal. So, one must know how to save time as one saves money. Compared to money, time is important, and therefore a person should be careful to choose between money and time, which is more important at a given time.

2.2. Time is energy:

We are aware that we spend a great deal of energy in doing the works. By the same examples given above, we can realize that Time is energy. If I want to build a house, there are two ways to do it. The first way is, like a man who lives in the forest, I can add brick after brick, wood after wood without spending money, and I can build the house without rushing. Another method is to spend a lot of money, hire workers, and complete the job in ten days. So I am saving a lot of energy by saving time and energy and spending energy.

We are also aware that time is associated with movement, the movement of the Sun, the Earth, etc. Time is measured by the movements of clocks. Movements signify changes in Energy. Therefore, it can be easily proved that time is energy. Neither energy nor time should be wasted here either, but a balance between the two should be had.

23. Time is thought:

J. Krishnamurti, may be the first Philosopher who classified time in two. One is material time, and the other is psychological time. Material time is the one associated with the movement of the Sun and other planetary bodies that we observe and follow, while psychological time is related to the mind. Mind means that it is a collection of thoughts. Thought movements involve changes in energy and are also perceived as time. In other words, thought is also another form of Time. Too much brooding over trivial matters is a waste of time and one must be sensitive to any problem and quick in making decisions to make constructive use of time.

3. How do we use time to our best advantage? (Supported by old quotes the author found while teaching personality development courses)

3.1.’Time is the capital that God (Nature) has given equally to all human beings. Some use it, others sinter it.

This quote from an unknown source explains very well the nature of time that no science or philosophy could explain. For any living creature, the day begins when the Sun rises (say 6 am) and ends when the Sun sets (say 6 pm). For everyone, 24 hours constitute a full day, including 12 hours at night, 7 days constitute a week, 12 months a year, etc. This capital is the same for everyone. But some use the capital to their best advantage and rise in life and others just waste the capital and die unnoticed.

The following simple examples will highlight the importance of the usefulness of time in a life. A student has one year to study in one class. He just wastes his time entertaining and gossiping. The other one is also the same year. He scrupulously attends classes, prepares well and acquires the first rank. His future is secured by the prudent use of time.

In a position, an equal experience of five years is fixed for all, for the next promotion. But some indulge in wasting time and only some get promoted through hard work and devotion.

Therefore, the importance of the use of time can be seen and understood from the above quote which is full of meaning.

3.2. ‘Procrastination is the thief of time’:

The other meanings of the word procrastination are to delay, postpone, put off, etc. Some people have a habit of procrastinating. For them, the following quote will also apply. ‘A stitch in time saves nine’. Tomorrow is two days late for yesterday’s work. One should never procrastinate unless absolutely necessary. Anything can happen to stop progress during the deferment period. Even death can occur during the intervening period. Therefore, one should think that they will die in a few hours and complete the works and leave office.

3.3. ‘Time and tide wait for none’

The full moon will not wait until one’s love arrives. Any day is an auspicious day and any time is auspicious. Some people are in the habit of consulting astrologers even for trivial matters.

During the time that they would be waiting for the auspicious moment, others might have shown remarkable progress and come a long way.

3.4.’A day is worth two mornings:’

‘The past is an expired check that is not valid, the future is a postdated check, it is not ready for payment, only the present is a valid check, use it to your best advantage.’ ‘A bird in the hand is better than a hundred flying’, there are so many quotes of this type to explain the value of the present time. Let us be aware of the ‘present’ which is the only reality.

3.5.’If you want to add 10 years to your life, practice getting up at 5 am every day instead of 7 am for 40 years.’

A person who gets up early gains time to that extent. He can be early for whatever job he has to attend that day. The early riser catches the worm is another quote to emphasize this aspect effectively. One might earn the money that he has spent, but he cannot earn the time that he lost in delay. Therefore, saving two hours a day is really an asset, like having a recurring deposit in a bank.

3.6: ‘The less there is to do, the less time there is to do it’

The concept of ‘No work’ equals more and more laziness. If one does not have a job, he will not consider even a small job that comes his way, while if a person has a large amount of work, he will find time to complete all the work. A busy person never complains about lack of time.

3.7.’Each moment spent in Planning helps save three or four in execution’:

PLANNING is the most powerful tool to save time. In fact, it takes time to save time. Some daily time should be allocated to plan the daily work schedule. Priority is of paramount importance. What should be done first is decided and the others should follow according to the seriousness and importance associated with them. There is nothing wrong with putting off things that are not important.

3.8. ‘Punctuality is the gracious courtesy of a prince’.

Punctuality is a measure of a man’s discipline. In fact, a punctual person will arrive at the appointed place 10 minutes before. During the time he waits, he will be planning the next task. Punctuality as a discipline will always bring name and fame.

3.9.’The intellectual and moral character of a man will seem weak if he is usually unfaithful in his appointments’.

One must always attend appointments to keep one’s name fair. It is a measure of integrity. If it is not possible to keep up, due to unforeseen and avoidable circumstances, at least that fact should be made known to those who are waiting. The time of others is equally important, sometimes more important.

3.10. ‘Delays at work are like unpaid debts. The interest becomes more than the principal’.

People like to say that “I have a lot of files on the table”, or “I have a lot of work to clean up”, etc. Having many files or work is not a criterion of efficiency. The pending works accumulate as unpaid loans and one day it will swallow whoever accumulates work.

Part III: Conclusion:

Thus we have seen three aspects of Time that can be well understood to understand the true meaning of Time. Ten suggestions for the best use of time backed by old sayings are also given. As a conclusion, it is verified that Time is, in a certain way, equal or more valuable than gold or Deposits in a bank, because we can recover the first in case they are lost and never recover Time if it is lost.

It is sincerely hoped that readers will greatly benefit from following the above suggestions.

The author wishes readers all the best.
