Toyota Tundra Joins List of Most Popular US-Made Vehicles in America

An online auto sales index has identified the Toyota Tundra as one of the best-selling vehicles built in America and is attributed in part to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc.’s new plant in San Antonio.

And for the first time, the Tundra, which was built at facilities in Princeton, Indiana, and San Antonio with parts made like Toyota Control Arm Bushing Kits primarily in US factories, was finally added to the US Manufacturing Index. from Cars.com.

Each year, the American Made Index identifies the top 10 quintessentially American vehicle models that relate to where the parts are produced as well as the popularity of the vehicles among cars.com buyers.

So far, the most produced “American” vehicle according to the index is the Ford F-150, which is assembled primarily in Claycomo, Mo., and Dearborn, Mich. The Toyota Camry, on the other hand, which is assembled in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., ranked only second.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 built in Fort Wayne Ind. and Pontiac, Michigan placed third, while the Chevrolet Cobalt built in Lordstown, Ohio placed fourth, and the Ford Focus built in Wayne, Mich. ranked fifth.

Toyota’s Tundra ranked tenth on the list. Chicago-based cars.com works with more than 200 newspapers, television stations and their websites to buy and sell new and used vehicles.

Cars.com is a division of Classified Ventures LLC, which is owned by media conglomerates Belo Corp., Gannett Co. Inc., The McClatchy Co., Tribune Co. and The Washington Post Co.
