Do you talk to your feet?

When you speak in public, are you speaking to your audience or to your feet?

When you talk to your feet, 3 things happen:

1 – Your audience does not hear your voice. Whichever direction you face your mouth when you speak is the direction the sound is going. If you talk to your feet, the only ones that listen to you are your feet.

2 – Your audience will stop paying attention to you. If you don’t look at your audience, you can’t hold their attention. Eye contact is crucial to talking about success.

3 – Even if your audience can hear you, they won’t believe what you’re saying. When you talk to your feet, it sounds like you’re not sure of your subject. The more confident you appear, the more confident your audience will have in what you are saying.

When you present, stand up straight, take control of the room, and face your audience. This will help you appear confident, hold your audience’s attention, and gain buy-in from your audience.

The next time you speak to their feet, tell them to take a powerful stance and imagine them responding and saying “look at your audience!”
