Exploring World History Curriculum
Exploring World History Curriculum Package is a full-year high school course written with a Christian worldview. The class teaches a complete survey of world history with significant coverage of Latin America, Africa, and Asia. It also covers ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages, and modern times. Students can earn three high school credits—world history, English (literature and composition), and Bible—when they complete the entire course and its required assignments.
Like most Notgrass courses, each course contains a textbook and a volume of primary source documents. The books are filled with conservational chapters that feature archival images and artifacts along with beautiful, full-color photographs of the places and people studied in each lesson. Lesson plans and teaching tips are clearly presented in the text, allowing students to work independently for most of their lessons. The textbook includes a variety of reading assignments in In Their Words, a 370-page compilation of original documents, speeches, poems, stories, and classic literature excerpts that students read as a companion to their history lessons.
The world history high school homeschool curriculum also uses maps to illustrate the places and events of each unit, and encourages students to create their own historical timelines to keep track of important dates. Each unit also includes a few writing assignments and hands-on projects. Parents can choose to have their children write essays for a writing credit or utilize the textbook’s built-in writing prompts. For the literature credit, twelve books are assigned, which can be purchased separately or obtained through the library.

One of the things that sets Notgrass courses apart from other history curricula is the way they integrate the study of world history with classic literature and biblically-based Bible studies. The company provides a book list for each course on its website, which allows homeschooling families to purchase all of the literature needed for that particular course as a bundle or to source it through other suppliers or used bookstores.
All of Notgrass’s history curriculum is taught from a Christian perspective, which is emphasized throughout the curriculum. The class explores how a Christian worldview can help a student understand the people and events of world history from an era when religion was an active part of daily life.
Exploring World History is divided into 30 units with 150 daily lessons. The course can be completed in one year with a commitment of two to three hours per day, depending on how fast a student reads and completes additional assignments. Parents can be involved as much or as little as they want in this independent, discussion-based course. The course is designed to be taken as a one-credit world history and one-credit English (literature and composition) high school course. It can be expanded to a full-year course with the addition of the Bible and literature components.
