The Sealyham Terrier is a short-legged breed of dog that was developed in Wales during the 19th century. This breed generally stands around 10 inches tall at the shoulders and weighs around 20 pounds.

Coat
The Sealyham Terrier’s coat is weather resistant and consists of a dense, soft undercoat and a straight, wiry, harsh topcoat. They usually come white or with tan, badger, lemon, or blue badger markings on the ears and head. Excessive undercoat and heavy markings are considered undesirable by the breed standard.

Exercise
The Sealyham Terrier is generally a low energy breed. But they do require exercise to stay in shape and avoid behavior problems. Therefore, they should be taken for a brisk walk or jog at least once a day, and allowed to play. These dogs were born to work, so expect them to be happiest when given something to do that isn’t too strenuous.

Temper
The Sealyham Terrier is a lovely little dog. Not only is he a loving and affectionate dog; they are loyal and affectionate with excellent courage as well. This terrier is not overly noisy like some of the other terrier breeds. They are generally great with other pets, but can be inclined to be aggressive. Expect these dogs to be reserved around strangers. Being a great watchdog, these terriers are also skilled trackers and hunters. However, they can be a good dog to train. It is always important to keep an eye on them when they are around small children. They do not usually tolerate harsh treatment from young children.

Overview
The Sealyham Terrier was originally bred to hunt badgers, foxes, and otters. These comical little dogs are mostly companion dogs these days, making them a great choice for a novice terrier dog owner.

Watch out
The Sealyham Terrier will require a fair amount of grooming. Their long, thick coat will require brushing three to four times a week and a bath every one to two months. Stripping will be needed at least once a year to remove dead fur. These dogs are prone to deafness, skin allergies, and eye diseases.

Training
The Sealyham Terrier is generally an intelligent dog. But, being the terrier that they are, they will require constant training every day. They require firm but gentle training so that they understand the basics of obedience. Training this breed would be best for a novice dog owner. Short training sessions combined with play time will kill the stubborn Sealyham Terrier. It is recommended to teach this breed different tricks and commands on a constant basis.
