I am the person who always has a book at my fingertips at all times. It started with a physical book in my bag at all times. But as I got older, I realized that one book was not enough. I needed an eReader so that I could carry all my books with me at all times. There are only two devices that I would personally consider buying, the Amazon Paperwhite and the Nook GlowLight from Barnes & Noble.

Both devices share some of the same basic features, and some features are unique to each device. They both have six-inch (diagonal) displays and are touchscreens. They both use eInk screens, which makes it look like a page in a book, allowing you to read in direct sunlight. Each device lasts an average of a month on a single charge. Because you can adjust the size and type of font in which the text appears, it is easier to read and less strain on the eyes. You can bookmark certain pages, as well as highlight passages and take notes. This feature is useful for book clubs. They are also lighter than a typical book. If you come across a word that you are not familiar with and want to know what it means, you can search for it. If you have more than one device or app, you can pick up where you left off on other devices. And the main reason I would only consider these devices is because they have the ability to be illuminated by headlights, allowing you to read for longer periods of time. The main advantage of front lighting is that it puts significantly less strain on the eyes than background lighting; tablets, phones, and computers use backlights.

The Nook GlowLight is only $ 99. The Nook GlowLight uses Wi-Fi only, and instead of getting your e-books from Amazon, I’d buy them through Barnes & Noble. The Nook GlowLight has the same basic features listed above, but it also has a few features that make it different. GlowLight has a real physical location that you can go to for customer support. Whether it’s a user error or a real technology glitch, you can take your device to the nearest Barnes & Noble and get help.

Amazon’s Paperwhite costs around $ 119. But they offer a few different features that may entice you to spend an extra $ 20 for your device. They have updated their screen resolution to make the pages sharper and easier to read. You can also add, for an additional one-time payment, 3G. Which means you can get new books anywhere AT&T service is available. All Amazon devices have a feature called Kindle Unlimited for $ 9.99 per month.

While both devices are great, I would personally get the Amazon Paperwhite. I like these devices better because they have the ability to read in the dark. Amazon’s Paperwhite has more current technology and the ability to use Kindle Unlimited.
