Parakeets can record 150 frames per second. Imagine that! With such a fast speed, an old school movie must seem very strange to them. Even with movies moving at 60 frames per second, they can basically see how they move. For humans, they can only record 16 frames per second. That means if the film was moving at 8 images per second, one could see the images spinning. That would actually be very slow for budgies.
Budgies also have the ability to see color in the world. They will have no problem registering different colors. No more black and white movies for these parakeets. They want to see everything in color!
Another interesting fact is that they can count. Yes, they have the ability to count. Can you count to 10,000? Unfortunately, that is not possible. But they have the ability to count to three. That’s pretty amazing. This is because they can store quite a bit of memory in their brains. For example, they can listen to a range of sounds from 400 to 20,000 Hz and store them for a while. So to think that birds are not intelligent would be a big mistake. In fact, they are smarter than most animals.
